What personal data we collect and why we collect it
Your name and contact details (address, phone number, email)
It would be impossible to send your order without this information. We use name and address info to create a postage label and may share phone numbers and emails with our couriers so they can send you tracking updates.
To update you on your order we will send you transactional service messages via email to let you know the status of your order and so you know your order is on its way.
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
While using this service, you will have to provide us with certain personally identifiable information that can be used to contact or identify you. This personally identifiable information includes your name and your email address.
We collect this information for the purpose of identifying and communicating with you, responding to your requests/enquires, and improving our customer services.
When you send email communications to us, we will only retain those communications for as long as it takes to process your request/enquiry.
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

Who we share your data with
We do not sell or share any of your personal data with third parties so that they can market to you. However, we do share your data with trusted delivery companies, website hosts and payment service providers under contract with us, they can only use this data to provide a service to The White Giraffe and to you and not for any other reason.
We accept payments through PayPal. When processing payments, some of your data will be passed to PayPal, including information required to process or support the payment, such as the purchase total and billing information.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website, we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes. Please be advised that we will not charge you for this service, but we will have to request proof of identity before we disclose information to you.
Where we send your data
Your personal information may be processed outside the European Economic Area (EEA) where privacy laws may not provide protection to the same level as in the UK. Before any transfer takes place we will take steps to ensure that your personal information will be adequately protected as required by the UK Data Protection Act by all our trusted partners and service providers that help us run our business.
Visitor comments may also be checked through an automated spam detection service.

How we protect your data
We know how much trust you place in us when you share your personal data. Because of that we place great importance on the security of your personal information and will always take appropriate precautions to protect it. This applies both to the physical security of the data that we hold, and the high level of digital security features that we use.
This website uses industry standard software protection for secure financial transactions. Your personal data transferred to us is securely encrypted so that it cannot be read as the information travels over the Internet. While on a secure page the lock icon on Web browsers such as Safari and Chrome becomes locked to indicate this.
Even with all these precautions, no data transmission over the internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. So, whilst we strive to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee the security of any information which you disclose to us online and you must understand that you do so at your own risk.
Within our office only those who have a business need to access your information and who are trained in handling data securely will have access to your information. We have put in place appropriate security measures to prevent your personal data from being accidentally lost, used or accessed in an unauthorised way, altered or disclosed.
Our website may, from time to time, contain links to third party websites. If you follow a link to any of these websites, please note that these websites will have their own privacy policies and that we do not accept any responsibility or liability for these policies.
Where you have chosen a password which enables you to access certain parts of our site, you are responsible for keeping this password confidential. We ask you not to share a password with anyone.
This policy was last updated in October 2018. We may amend or update this policy at any time to take account of any changes to data protection law or other legislation. When further updates to the policy are made they will be posted on this page, so please check back here regularly. Any significant changes will be notified to you.
